Experience the World Your Way
I announced it on the Solo Traveler Newsletter first. Then on the Solo Travel Society on Facebook. Now, I’m making the official announcement to the world.
The Solo Traveler’s Handbook is no longer a stand-alone travel book. It is now part of a series called The Traveler’s Handbooks. The other four in the series which launches officially in New York City on October 10th and London on November 1st are:
- The Career Break Traveler’s Handbook
- The Food Traveler’s Handbook
- The Luxury Traveler’s Handbook
- The Volunteer Traveler’s Handbook
Travel is more than a destination.
Travel is about how you choose to experience the world. You read Solo Traveler because you travel solo. But you may also be interested in taking a career break, or tasting the food that locals eat or volunteering as you travel or enjoying a bit of luxury. Yes, each book has a specific focus and it’s possible that more than one will appeal to you.
The Traveler’s Handbooks are complimentary to traditional destination travel guides. They are authored by experts and each offers a fresh take on travel. Like The Solo Traveler’s Handbook, they share inspirational stories along with practical tips and advice.
The 2nd edition of
The Solo Traveler’s Handbook
The 2nd edition of The Solo Traveler’s Handbook is 25% longer than the first edition and replaces some of the original stories with fresh new ones. In short, it offers more stories and tips on solo travel fun and safety. It’s part how-to manual and part travel literature and it will help you venture out with confidence to discover yourself as you discover the world!
The Solo Traveler’s Handbook offers:
- A comprehensive how and why of solo travel.
- A variety of solo travel stories
- How to be solo and social: meeting locals and other travelers
- Safety: four priorities, five principles and sixty tips
- Planning and packing
- Where to go and when
- Dozens of resources

Housing Works has established itself as a New York downtown institution and tourist destination for the last decade. Special events and a fully stocked cafe make this a great place to meet friends, relax and shop the best book, movie and music selection in New York City. The store’s one of a kind space is available for rental and all of our merchandise is donated. We are staffed almost entirely by volunteers and 100% of our profits go to Housing Works.
Our Mission: Housing Works is a healing community of people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS. Our mission is to end the dual crises of homelessness and AIDS through relentless advocacy, the provision of lifesaving services, and entrepreneurial businesses that sustain our efforts.
