Confessions of a Solo BoBo
I suspected it when I traveled solo down the Blues Highway staying at some beautiful four and five star hotels yet visiting some pretty seedy bars. It was confirmed when a thrill ran up and down my spine as I bought my backpack for my solo trip to Chile.
I am a BoBo – a Bourgeois/Bohemian.
I’m middle aged. I’m middle class. I like a few luxuries. But I also like to believe that there is a bit of the Bohemian in me that can discard the trappings of a middle-middle existence and take pleasure in whatever is presented.
According to Wikipedia:
“Bohemianism is the practice of an unconventional lifestyle, often in the company of like-minded people, with few permanent ties, involving musical, artistic or literary pursuits. In this context, Bohemians can be wanderers, adventurers, or vagabonds.”
Interesting. Wanderers, adventurers or vagabonds. In the company of like-minded people. Few permanent ties. This all matches my travel style.
At home I can can be somewhat traditional, dare I say Bourgeois. But when I travel, I like to take a less conventional approach. Some day I may raise this approach to an art form and maybe even live it full time.
Until then, I am a BoBo.
