This well-considered suggestion was received from my Chilean neighbors.

    Janice,

I am sending you the links for the institution we are supporting in Chile. They are connected with a larger NGO which makes international donations easier. We have decided to support them for three reasons:

  • They are an education NGO which supports schools with a Peace and Sustainable Development Based curriculum in agricultural communities.
  • They are in contact with a small community of agricultural workers in Rio Claro which was devastated by the earthquake
  • These little communities are the ones that get forgotten when these disasters happen.
  • I am copying the links here hoping that people in your networks will become interested. One of the links shows a ppt with the help that they already were able to get there with the beginning contributions. It was the first help this community received a week after the earthquake. While there were no fatal victims their houses are totally destroyed as you can see by the photos:http://centrodepaz.org/

Donate online through The Resource Foundation in the US (editor’s note: Canadians can donate here as well though I’m not sure that a tax receipt is available.)
