How to Float in the Dead Sea: yes, you need a lesson.

Woman floating in the Dead Sea

I finally got the it.

You’d think it would be easy!

And it is. But there is also a trick to floating in the Dead Sea and it has to do with how you begin.

In a typical ocean, lake or river, I enter the water facing forward. I slide in with one smooth breaststroke and then, maybe, roll over onto my back to enjoy the air, the sun and the buoyancy.

But this does not work in the Dead Sea. There, you are so buoyant that, should you go in on your stomach, it’s very difficult to turn over. Your legs and shoulders rise up so high that your back is arched at an uncomfortable angle. And the force is so great that it’s hard to counter.

So, the technique is to enter backwards. Slide in as if you are sitting down and then relax. You will float. Without any effort, even those who tend to sink like a stone will float. Float and enjoy a place so magical that it has been shortlisted as one of the New7Wonder of Nature.

Here are some more photos of the Dead Sea.

If you get the water in your eyes it will burn badly, also I saw a life guard watching and ask, do people actually drown? He told me they try to turn over and can panic and drink the water…which has so much mineral content…HE TOLD ME that people can die because it can burst their heart! He said a 7 yr old boy died right before we arrived…sooo it can be dangerous BUT it’s a BLAST and a Very unique feeling! I LOVED IT! Also Very Healing for skin diseases.

Not unless you have a cut or scape like Jeremy says. Also the mud is amazing. I’ll show that in another post.

Just be careful of any cuts and don’t shave for at least a day before you go in! :)
