Paris is a city that inspires.
It inspires artists and authors, photographers, philosophers and poets.
It also inspired Solo Traveler reader Judy Tate. She wrote this poem and has kindly shared it with us.
Here is her poem – following it are 10 photos of Paris.
so here i am by a château on a plateau
from the edge of the grounds past phalanxes of box trees you can see Paris
cobble-stones lure me to centre-ville where i know
of a store that sells everything from baguettes to scarves
too late for the marché and i am craving an orange or a mango
inside i slow zig-zag a path through the women’s fashion and there is
at the foodmarket’s entrance a sudden samba and it seems à propos
to dance the small man in all white behind the fromages and saucisses
laughs steps out to join me with “Elle danse bien, elle danse bien, non?”
and i move toward the colours of sweetness
i have one afternoon to roam
and i haven’t seen the birthplace of Debussy
