Solo is the Downward Dog of Travel
Finding focus and stilling my mind is definitely my greatest challenge in yoga. It’s also one of the main the reasons that I go. It is important to stop thinking sometimes and just be.
The other day I was in Glory’s yoga class and my mind took off. I noticed. Brought it back. And it promptly wandered off again. On the upside, I found that I was composing a post for Solo Traveler. Somewhere into my 6th or 7th downward dog of the class I got to thinking:
“solo, is the downward dog of travel.”
So, I give you seven ways that solo travel is like a downward dog.
Just as the downward dog…
1. …takes time for the novice to find the proper position, solo travel requires a bit of time to develop skills to make it both fun and safe.
2. …stretches and works every aspect of your body, solo travel stretches and works your travel and social skills beyond the typical travel experience.
3. …is a meditative pose, solo travel gives you real opportunities for meditation and reflection.
4. …is a rejuvenating stretch, people are rejuvenated by solo travel and return to everyday life with new perspectives gained through many new connections.
5. …is physically demanding the longer the pose is held, solo travel can be more challenging the longer one is on the road.
6. …becomes a restful pose as the practice gets more difficult, solo travel offers opportunity for rest from the demands of others.
7. …is a work in progress, the solo traveler is always growing.
