Reasons to go: If you are looking for a perfect little spot away from the hustle and bustle, then Cameron Highlands is the place to go. This small town in North Malaysia is amazingly popular for its tea plantations, strawberry farms and the world’s largest flower, Rafflesia (found only in the Cameron Highlands jungle).
You’ll love the fresh air and slightly lower temperatures, so no need for using air conditioning.
As for all Malaysian places, the food is incredible. I recommend the Malay food stalls, and Chinese restaurants (try Steamboat Soup). Don’t miss visiting the tea plantations (BOH Tea Plantation and Sungai Palas Plantation) with breathtaking views as you make your way through rolling hills on narrow hillside roads. There you can taste a cup of tea (whether it’s black, green or flavoured) served with scones, butter, strawberry marmalade, and fresh whipped cream.
For local souvenirs go to Pasar Malam (Night Market), where you can buy just about anything.
If you have enough time on your hands, head to the local tourist agency and book a jungle walk and farm tour. You’ll travel in the morning inside the jungle to see the Rafflesia flower, the beautiful waterfalls, bamboo and palm trees, hear the monkey sounds. In the afternoon you’ll see the strawberry, flower, butterfly and bee farms.
Four days is more than enough to see and enjoy a new place and “recharge your batteries”.
