Solo Travel Destination: San Juan, Puerto Rico
We are pleased to present a new Solo Travel Destination Post from Sylvia, a member of the Solo Travel Society on Facebook. Sylvia is from Canada, and submitted the following report about San Juan. Do you have a solo travel destination that you would like to recommend? Submit your description here, along with a few photos, and share it with fellow travelers!
Solo travel rating: 2 (1 is easiest, 4 is most difficult. Please see chart below)
Languages spoken: Spanish, English
Reasons to go: Old San Juan is a beautiful and walkable area with a European flare. You can visit many historic sites such as Catedral de San Juan Bautista, Casa Blanca, Castillo San Filipe del Morro (commonly known as El Morro), Castillo San Cristobal, Plaza de Las Armas (one of many squares in Old San Juan) and see the City Hall near San Juan Gate.
Make sure you wear comfortable walking shoes (obviously running shoes are the best) as the grade is steep plus you will be walking on cobbled streets. That’s one of the best parts!
If you like museums, there are many to visit here.
After all of your walking, stop in to Old Harbor Brewery for some refreshment. The cold beer on a hot day will go down very smoothly.
