Solo Traveler

Posted on March 31, 2010 - by Janice

Solo Travel Tours – 5 trips I’d like to take.

How to Travel Alone

Draa Valley palm groves in Morocco

Generally, I  travel independently. I like the excitement of changing my itinerary on a whim and meeting new people all the time so I don’t usually take solo travel tours or cruises.

But, occasionally, a solo travel tour is on offer that strikes my fancy. A few have come across my computer screen lately and, while I post all packaged travel I find that doesn’t include a single supplement on the Solo Travel Deals page (I use Google Alerts to receive a notice every time one is added to the web) I think these are worth noting separately. I’ll do this every few months or so — whenever there is a number that I think warrant some special attention.

Unique and interesting solo travel destinations.

Dating in the Oasis! Morocco
An 8-night tour of Southern Morocco and the Sahara with 3 days helping with the annual date harvest in the beautiful Drâa Valley. Make new friends as you enjoy being immersed into daily rural life. Trip runs only once per year! For solo travelers only. 3rd – 11th November 2010

Cruising in Tahiti -Book by April 30th
No Single Supplement on Spring Tahiti Cruises if you book a spring sailing on luxury ship Paul Gauguin by April 30. Paul Gauguin Cruises is waiving the single supplement on seven South Pacific cruises, departing between April 6 and June 19, 2010, and ranging in length from 7 to 15 nights.

Sabi Sabi Game Reserve, Africa
Single Supplement Savings Announced! Good news and great savings for small groups, friends and families traveling together to Sabi Sabi. With immediate effect, single supplements at all of Sabi Sabi’s 5-Star lodges will be waived for the first two suites in any new booking.

Cookery Holiday in Thailand Tamarind and Spice
Indulge your passion for food and travel on this authentic Thailand cookery holiday. Chop and eat your way around four regions and cook up a storm in locations as diverse as an organic farm and a desert island.

European River Cruises
Single travelers can waive the standard single supplement on these select river cruises.
Book a select 2010 Europe Globus River Cruise vacation in order to waive the single supplement fee. Only five promotional staterooms available each departure. Offer available on select dates of select cruises listed.

Some people may be surprised that I have not included the Norwegian Epic but I’m afraid that, while I applaud them for accommodating solo travelers, this is just not my type of travel.

That’s fantastic list. Right now I am in the last phase of my 45 days solo backpacking and I am told that itself is an achievement as no Indian woman has done it so far.

And this list looks so inviting.

Would love to do some of these.

Following on Adri’s post, I know of a culinary trip going to Mexico (Oaxaca area) in May that I’m pretty sure doesn’t have a single supplement. If anyone’s interested I can find out. (I have no affiliation with the folks putting together the tour, but I have met them. I just really love Mexican cuisine!)

Ah yes, I agree with JessieV. The Thailand adventure sounds amazing. I would even be into doing a similar thing in Mexico … sun, sand, culture … and learning to make all different versions of guacamole and ceviche imaginable! Lunch anyone?
