Where to Stay in Jordan
For solo travelers more than most travelers, where you stay has a big affect on the trip you live. Want luxury alone time? You want a hotel or resort. Want to be social? You want a hostel, B&B or other place with common areas. When I went to Jordan I enjoyed both styles of accommodations thanks to the support of the Jordan Tourism Board.
The Capital City, Amman
I arrived in the capital city of Amman after an overnight flight and was immediately taken to the Four Seasons Hotel. After a sleepless night on the plane, nothing could have been better than to fall into such luxury. Beautiful rooms, a variety of lovely restaurants and a spa make the hotel a perfect landing place when arriving in Jordan.
Ajloun Nature Reserves
My next day in Jordan involved visiting the Roman city of Jerash (see The Wonderful Children of Jordan) and the Ajloun castle. That evening I went to The Ajloun Nature Reserve, located near the Castle. The reserve is run by the Royal Society for the Protection of Nature primarily to protect the Evergreen Oak Tree. There is gentle hiking in the area and a nice, low key inn that follows sustainable practices and offers a real retreat from the capital. The rooftop dining has communal tables making it very social.
Hotel in Petra
Petra is the ultimate destination for people going to Jordan. There are many nice places to stay in the new city, but I stayed at the Movenpick, a luxury hotel located right outside the entrance to the archeological city. With just a few steps I entered another world.
Resort on the Red Sea
Jordan is rich with nature wonders including two amazing seas. At the Red Sea I stayed at the Marina Plaza Aqaba which is located a little outside of Aqaba yet close enough to enjoy a night on the town – which I did, smoking sheesha and all. The next morning I went snorkeling in the sea.
The Dead Sea
I took the Dead Sea in twice, first at another Nature Reserve near the Mujib Reserve. It’s a peaceful place to watch the sun set and the communal dining area is a great place to meet people. Close to the reserve is a canyon with excellent hiking.
Then, on to a resort on the Dead Sea – the Jordan Valley Marriot Resort and Spa. A beautiful resort with many pools, I focused on the sea. Yes, I got all mudded up and floated.
You can see that all my accommodation in Jordan was exceptional. Yes, I was very fortunate indeed.
