The Solo Traveler Blog

The Back-story

So why a blog on solo travel? Well, it’s personal but here goes.

Just over two years ago my husband died. The years leading up to his death were very difficult. The last really good year we had together we spent traveling Europe while homeschooling our youngest. We bopped from country to country in a VW pop-up. Kind of “The Drifters” with kids. Yes, we loved to travel.

In the years since his passing, I have struggled to get back the life I had — the one I expected to be living at this point in time. Then I had a minor break-through. Instead of adjusting my life to expectations, I had to adjust my expectations to my life — at least somewhat.  So now…

…I  embrace my solo status.  Solo Traveler is a project that has helped me do so.

I traveled solo in my 20′s and I’m doing it again.

I live alone, and therefore love traveling solo. I wasn’t always single. I was half a pair for many years. Solo/independent offers many advantages — no bickering over travel routes, wrong turns, how or when to sleep, sites to see and for writers, it’s the bomb! I must confess I do have a K9 partner. She’s quite the watchdog and makes me feel safe. I might have qualms going totally solo, I guess ;) I do believe there are more challenges for a woman alone on the road — physical and psychological. Overcoming them is very rewarding, tho!
