Just came back on from my first solo trip and planning a big one next year and was great to read how others do it with partners , as that has been the only drawback, can I leave him for months on end, thanks for article, am going, even if it will be hard.

I like to travel solo as well. I enjoy figuring out where I am going. I like to stumble around and experience the culture--food, music, the food market, night life.

That's an interesting point. Traveling solo with a disability would be a good subject for a post. Will have to research. Did you read the post on the Blind Solo Traveler? Very inspiring.

As always, Janice --brilliant, brilliant, brilliant posting.

I discovered solo travel when I was 26 and at 61 I am still going strong in that department! It isn't that I never travel with companions, it isn't that I don't enjoy my companions when I do travel with them, but there is a certain magic for me about solo travel that feels like it is an integral part of who I am.

Right now I have a coaching client who was recently widowed. She is about to experience her first solo travel trip and I am unbelievably excited for her to discover all that awaits her!

I find that for a lot of my female clients who have lost self confidence as they've aged, solo travel is a fast, powerful and potent way of rediscovering their essence, reclaiming who they are in this world. Whether it is weekends away, attending retreats and workshops on their own, or exploring far flung destinations, there is something profoundly grounding about doing it for yourself and by yourself.

Thanks for offering this wonderful multi-dimensional perspective on the topic. Well done!

I used to travel solo all the time when I was single. I have been married for 22 years now and tomorrow I am going on a solo trip for the first time since I got married, not counting occasional business trips. This one is for the sake of travel, nothing else. Okay, for the sake of climbing a mountain too, but that is the whole thing, being able to do what you want to do, living life on YOUR terms.

I'll let you know how it goes. I'll be out in the no-man land for a few days. Make sure to check my blog first week of August for details.
