Solo Travel Safety: Six tips for common sense self defense.
I usually write about solo travel safety from a prevention perspective. In case prevention isn’t possible, here are a few tips that I hope you’ll never have to use.

Hi. My name is Janice and I’m known in the blogosphere as Solo Traveler. But, in fact, I have enjoyed many styles of travel in my life.
In my 15th summer I took off for my first travel adventure.
I had saved money from my job at a local delicatessen (at $1.25/hr) bought a white Peugot second hand and went on a cycling tour through Wales and the south of England. Until my mother’s 80th birthday, I never traveled with my family of origin again.
Please don’t get me wrong. I have a fabulous family. Our lives are intertwined. But I also have a wanderlust that the others don’t. It was in my 20s that I first traveled solo and even had a chance to experience Eastern Europe before the fall of the wall.
In my late 20s I was fortunate to meet a man who had the same ideas about travel as me. So, in my 30s and 40s we did family travel. Through the years of raising our kids, we traveled every chance we could – culminating in a 10 month trip through Europe while homeschooling the youngest.
Sadly, my husband passed away a few years ago. Now, I travel solo again. And I take great pleasure in sharing the experience, the skills and safety tips with the readers of Solo Traveler.
Traveling solo offers a unique opportunity to discover the world as well as oneself. I hope you find inspiration in this blog.
